Did you know that the reaction of sodium with water is one of the most exciting chemical reactions? When you add a piece of sodium to water, a rapid and violent reaction occurs, as sodium (Na) reacts with water molecules (H20) to form sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). Results: 1. Hydrogen gas production: Gas bubbles appear that cause small explosions. 2. Extreme heat: The reaction releases heat, which can ignite the gas formed.
