Threads is now 2 years old. It has 350 million monthly active users. X is quite steady at 600 million MAUs. Here on Farcaster we're looking at MAUs in the 200,000 range. Threads is gaining quickly, while X is plateauing. Threads cares about trending topics (very important, people like to babble, and thats why real time discussion matters). It is a key X engagement. We know for a fact since Elon took over X, in the EU, there is 15% decline in usage.  BTW, Apple just joined Threads. 4.8 million followers. Their X account has 9.8M followers. How do we get more brands on Farcaster?

I mean, I don’t really like to babble on social media, but whenever I’d make a comment that I felt was necessary on Threads, I’d get more engagement than in 100 years on Farcaster. And that is definitely more rewarding than getting $3 for casting into the void…

This is a problem that needs to be fixed. I don’t actually think $ fixes it. People need to come here who aren’t incentivized by $. And then we need to have distribution/engagement. That I feel is an algorithmic improvement waiting to happen

Yeah money can incentivizes certain posts (ie memes I post attract 10x more attention than serious insightful (I think) posts).

The algorithm is feeding what the people want, and I think I’d prefer the serious insightful frankly

Yes, but that requires effort, and most people will quickly notice it makes limited sense to put much of it in the current environment (farming-wise it's more cost-effective to be just spamming recycled ‘content’; a meaningful interaction that is intrinsically rewarding is a rare phenomenon)

This is a great optimization. We all do it even in real life (how many of us farm some sort of specials, or rewards, etc?)

Yeah, but the point is that it'd better to use that mechanism to incentivize good behavior, not farming for the sake of farming

A club model maybe? Charge a fee and allow people to get kicked out :)

I bet just moving the weight of ‘casting a lot’ in the Farcaster rewards to something more reasonable would do a lot of good…

btw, casting a lot is also not the solution - it is casting a lot with engagement - the key is engagement, and lately, it must not come from the same people, i.e. coordinated styled engagement. diverse engagement is what's preferred. i do however think rewards/leaderboard should be decoupled

I’m perfectly aware of it, but “just cast a lot” has been the dominant narrative for some time now, so that's what many people will go with.

agreed. i think it is possible that people find it too difficult to keep up with algorithm changes (and arguably, because of rewards, those happen more here than anywhere else). more experimentation as well. In another thread you mentioned that you get way more engagement on Threads - might I see your a/c? If there was a way for you to increase engagement here, would it also be of interest?
