James Carse was the Director of Religious Studies at New York University. He wrote this book to explore how we approach life. He said all human activities fall into two categories: "Finite players play within boundaries; infinite players play with boundaries." Are you trying to win? Or are you trying to keep playing?

I haven't read that book. Do "infinite games" (playing with boundaries) map onto what's now called a "growth mindset"?

Similar ideas, but I would say "growth mindset" (Carol Dweck's) is functional while "infinite games" is existential - why grow at all. Growth mindset: I'm not good at piano yet but can improve with practice. Infinite games: I don't play piano for applause. I play out of love for music and I never want to stop playing.
