Over the last few days, X was rife with conspiracy theories about how SecWar Hegseth’s all-hands meeting with the generals was to prepare terrestrial defenses against an alien invasion because 3I/ATLAS is really a hostile spaceship.

With the benefit of hindsight, I low-key wish it had been true

3I/ATLAS will transit behind the sun between late October and early December, hidden from our view.

Let’s assume for a moment (suspension of disbelief and all that) that it doesn’t reappear where orbital mechanics predict, but has ostensibly performed some kind of reverse Oberth maneuver that places it on an intercept course with Earth.
