Crazy question. How do people feel about the death penalty especially in the context of these school shootings?

So a person kills 4 people. And we think rehabilitation is in play? I think of prisons in the USA as a breeding ground for bull jive. Then we socially frown upon felonies - reducing potential productivity of that individual when they get out. I have friends from high school who are locked for life, not getting out. So the state feeds & houses them for 60 years? If society deems someone impossible to rehabilitate then we execute. I’m also very cool with exile.

I get your point. My concern is that we have a history of sentencing individuals to death that were innocent. "Since 1973, 200 former death-row prisoners have been exonerated of all charges related to the wrongful convictions that had put them on death row." To me, it's not worth the risk. But overall, I am a big believer that we need to reform our justice system. https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/policy-issues/innocence

I get this. I see wrongful indictments all the time. Maybe there should be a max time served. Or maybe exile should be more popular

I'm not exactly sure what the solution is. If you commit mass murder, I personally don't think you should ever have freedom. Maybe capital punishment is the solution in these cases where the evidence is overwhelming. But what we see is that once capital punishment is allowed, it doesn't get applied to only these obvious cases.

We agree there. I grew up in memphis TN. I’ve seen my fair share of murderers go to prison and get out to kill again. I’m asking if they aren’t to be free the state bears the costs of their lives for the length of their lives? Seems unfair when my rent goes up every year 😂

No, it's not fair. But you could say that about so many policies, especially when you are a middle income earner who doesn't benefit from any social services. For me it's more a question of what's worse. Is it better to pay the room and board of a mass murderer if it makes sure we didn't murder someone who was innocent. I say yes.

But let’s say we have this murderer on video? Killed 4 people. Then what? Still pay for room and board? How about exile?

If we only apply it to cases like that, then I'd be supportive. How would exile work?
