don’t underestimate the spinning wheel / gambling sentiment, there is a strong link between the two

also understand that some users only mint to spin the wheel in hopes of winning a bigger prize, they don’t actually care about supporting the artist

fair enough on both accounts but of course— no creator is forced to use any kind of distribution they don’t want to use, BETRMINT or otherwise.

I think it matters to some yes

If they could sell out their artwork but the trade-off is the possible unwanted link to getting users hooked on gambling, they would not do it (a bit extreme i know)

Some may also have an issue with people minting their art and never even looking at it

does it matter? (honest question) 

as a creator I can tell you that for me, it does not. distribution is distribution, an opportunity to make a fan. distribution that pays you regardless? sign me up.
