finished “Augustus” by John Williams great book that managed to range over wide historical overviews, and very personal and human takes, all written in the style of letters from tje characters to each other particularly liked the second book, from nearly all of Julia’s perspective, often overlooked in this period, and had the unexpected interplay of the mix of human and divine, family and a life devoted to the state and public great themes and also very human ones, fitting for a book about what’s really a case of apotheosis, and whether ultimately it was all worth it, and worth it or not, one plays their part in life

I forgot about this; I read Stoner a while back and it blew me away, but when I tried his other novels at the time I didn't want them because really I just wanted more Stoner (Wish I knew of Look Homeward, Angel back then) will need to try this and butcher's crossing once more
