Lab tour and intro to my million dollar mass spec we use to do cool /science and make next-gen cancer immunotherapy drugs. Sorry for the noise, I didn’t mention it but mass specs are under vacuum and use nitrogen gas so there is a ton of ambient noise around them, I usually wear headphones.

Wow that’s soo frikken cool to get to use a mass spectrometer, is it expensive to run? I would imagine there’s a lot of work lined up for it like a “busy schedule”…🤔 Can it Dede t anything, or is it programmed for a specific range of molecules??🧐 (but it would be cool to be able to run different items & see what’s really in different things like random candies, or a piece of antique jewelry, or a cigarette etc.)😅

Yeah it’s been running for almost 3 years on the same samples. Almost done with that project though so gonna have to find some new things to use it for. Service contract on it is like 60k/year but actually running it isn’t expensive.

Ohhh wow, that must be super exciting to be finishing up a 3 year run of testing, big congrats!!!😎🙌 Do you have any projects lined up for the possible next testing period??🧐 (Probably more important things to use it for than my silly random curiosities)😅

Still figuring out what to do next, we’ll come up with something. Curiosities are fun but usually not worth it, I went through that phase 😂

Hahaha, I can totally imagine the early days of having a rig like that, wanting to test anything & everything…😅 (Definitely best to put such an amazing piece of machinery to purposeful work)💪
