i went to Catholic and Episcopalian schools growing up. God never reached me in the form of a paternal omnipotent, but my religious education showed me how to find god in human and non-human life. Pope Leo XVI being from Chicago and speaking my own language hits real. being able to relate to the Pope and hear him talk about connectedness gives me hope that we we will find a path to peace and love. Jesus was a hippie too ☮︎

The constant family discussion is the idea of faith vs. religion and how they sustain and oppose one another.

i always think about how the Renaissance made it so worshippers could have a direct relationship with their creator, whatever that looks like to them, without requiring clergymen to intermediate. leaning into technology (from the printing press and beyond) feels potentially very enriching to the faith experience
