Qiandao Lake, or the “Lake of a Thousand Islands,” is an artificial lake located in China’s Zhejiang Province. It was formed in 1959 following the construction of a hydroelectric power station. As part of the project, residents from 1,377 villages were relocated, a dam was built, and over 20,000 hectares of farmland were submerged. What remained above water were 1,078 islands. Most of these are forested, making the area one of the largest forest parks in China, home to 90 species of birds and 60 species of animals. 0 reply
