Kubu Island – The Lost Island of Baobabs
Hundreds of years ago, in the middle of the Kalahari Desert, there was a vast lake, and at its heart stood Kubu Island. Over time, the lake dried up, turning into an expansive salt pan, while the massive boulders and ancient baobab trees on the island remained untouched. Kubu became a sacred site for one of the Bushmen tribes of Botswana, who use this mystical place to perform initiation rituals for young boys.
Today, Kubu Island is surrounded by a surreal landscape of salt flats, scattered rocks, and towering, gnarled baobabs. It is considered one of the most unusual and awe-inspiring places on Earth. Adventurous travelers can reach the island by quad bike, with guided tours regularly offered for those eager to witness this unique and otherworldly destination with their own eyes.

Originating on a mountain plateau south of the Sierra de la Macarena National Reserve, the river stretches 100 kilometers in length and up to 20 meters in width, making it the reserve’s main attraction.
