Jacaranda is an evergreen tree native mainly to the Southern Hemisphere. When it blooms in October–November — springtime in the south — it becomes almost entirely covered in lilac-blue panicle-shaped flowers. Because of its stunning beauty, jacaranda trees are often planted along entire streets, such as in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they form breathtaking purple tunnels. Unofficially, the city is home to 49 different species of jacaranda! For several months, thousands of trees in full bloom transform the city into a violet-blue haze, with the fallen petals carpeting the streets like something out of a fairytale.
