In the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Siam, north of Koh Samui, lies a small paradise island — Koh Tao. Its name translates from Thai as "Turtle Island," and it's easy to guess why. Once, the coastal waters of Koh Tao were home to countless sea turtles, who favored the island's shores for nesting. However, with the arrival of civilization and increasing tourism, their numbers have steadily declined — and today, sea turtles are a rare sight on the island.
