Why do so many famous Founders have a reputation for being complete assholes to their employees? Elon, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc. Were they successful because of this behavior, or in spite of it?

If you have an opinion about something and you're not willing to concede, people think you're an asshole — doesn't even matter if you're right in the end.

Maybe it is more about the attitude when holding and defending an opinion rather than the fact of holding and defending an opinion. Everyone has a choice of how they decide not to concede. This can be done with respect to others. Saying that, I agree that for some people disagreeing with them = being an asshole.

The challenge with words like “attitude” and “respect” are both opinionated nouns defined by each individuals threshold so measuring by that doesn’t matter. For conceding, core values like “disagree and commit” allow visionaries to lower discourse insulating “bad attitude” and “disrespect”.
