There is no need for a startup to waste money on advertising. It needs to act differently. 1. At least, this is what LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman thinks — after all, a startup won’t have enough money to give out as much advertising as it would like ☹️ 2. Instead, a startup should look for creative ways to fit into existing distribution schemes in order to “ride into heaven on their shoulders” 😉 3. When Hoffman himself was still working at PayPal, eBay became such a distribution channel, which agreed to add a payment method via PayPal. 4. Airbnb once pulled a similar trick by adding the ability to cross-post ads from its platform to the popular classifieds site Craigslist. Apartment and house owners willingly clicked the cross-posting button because Airbnb promised that this would increase the owner’s income by $500 a month.
