Trump admin just revoked student visas for all 7000 foreign Harvard students bc the school has “accepted boatloads of cash from foreign donors” If this had happened in 2010 we would’ve deported John Collison of Stripe fame https://apnews.com/article/harvard-trump-foreign-student-457d07268fba9c1f6f7f32fe0424bc3b

I mean one side has broadly been responsible for generating billions of dollars in economic value as well as countless crucial scientific discoveries and cultural artifacts while the other side is wielding deportation like a club to make every institution that disagrees with them bend the knee I got my own beef with Harvard, but they broadly deliver on their societal promises

generating billions opposed to who? i don't really get that argument.. and i'm not saying either side is right, just literally that both sides appear ridiculous-- celebrating student who was charged with beating up a jew, ignoring the government requests, training ccp who participated in genocide, cancelling all students foreign student visas--- these all sound pretty ridiculous

The billions piece is a proxy for “what good has Harvard contributed to the world” vs “what good has the Trump regime accomplished” To anyone not subsumed by antiwoke fervor, I think the accounting is completely clear

i'm not sure i understand going off doge savings at 170B this term-- and i can't really point to any numbers of i.e. manufacturing/anything to argue the point on a national level where as harvard can easily connect companies and alumni at least in part due to small size. anyway not to go too far off topic.. this is ultimately why i didn't vote, this was going to turn into a shit show either way is my honest opinion... i am tired of the extreme polarities, we can probably both agree on that.

Respectfully, DOGE numbers are mostly made up. There is no audit trail that would pass a legal muster to support a fraction of their claim and there is no party willing or able to hold them to account. I’ve looked at the receipts myself and have worked in federal budget programs and the Atlantic research passes the sniff test of credibility where doge “receipts” do not. And that’s beside the point of discussing what/why things were cut and if saving an arbitrary dollar amount actually makes America stronger On the distaste for extreme sides, I get it but I don’t think we get any less volatile from here on out. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2025/05/musk-doge-spending-cuts/682736/
