Sometimes people see a particular candidate or sponsorship on the left or right, and get upset about it, because they are left or right. But they don’t realize, zoomed out, that we are making a bi-partisan effort.

Anyone who wants us only support one side is not serious about getting crypto legislation passed. That’s the goal.

Coinbase is investing a lot in getting pro-crypto legislation passed (GENIUS act just passed, hopefully CLARITY next). This is important work that I’m super proud of and it benefits everyone in crypto, not just us. We spent about $100M on this last year, as one data point.

Part of getting crypto legislation passed is you need to build allies in DC, and so we’ve done that in a bi-partisan way. The military is broadly supported by both parties, and has high approval ratings, so I think in general we should support US troops for our US policy efforts. Some people had different perspectives on this particular parade, and it got politicized in a way we didn’t anticipate, which I get.

I should mention that we also sponsor a variety of other events in DC. Some are more left (like the Congressional Black Caucus), some are more right. We do both because we’re bi-partisan, and you need to get bi-partisan support to get legislation passed.
