@v i’d like a lighter weight version of mute that just removes people from my feed, but doesn’t prohibit them from DCing or reply notifying. I just don’t want to see so much of their content recommended in the feed.

Isn’t that just unfollowing? I get notifications from people I dont follow. They can also DM. Or are you worried about offending people? Normalize being able to be friends with someone IRL but not needing to follow their content streams !

I get people in my feed who I don’t follow. This is the primary case. I also would like to follow without seeing some people in my feed. Essentially “silence” as @tako-unik mentioned — apparently a feature in ig!
