Besides tiktok being the notable exception, which of these are text, image, or video platforms: Instagram Twitter LinkedIn Threads Substack Even tiktok has videos which are just text pasted on an image and set to music, so maybe there’s an argument to be made that TikTok supports text too Point being: all social platforms support all kinds of media. Would be stupid if Farcaster didn’t lean into them all.

The common denominator that all of these share that FC does not have is they don’t charge for signup. No normal person is ever going to pay $3 or $1 or even $0.1 to join a social app. It’s just simply a nonstarter and until that changes the rest won’t really matter. Steel man is — I’m sure they would subsidize if they could — I assume it’s because of bots and if they subsidizes storage cost it would get gamed. So I get why they don’t — but doesn’t change reality.

I keep wondering why the video feature was limited to just power users at some point or people without the spam label(this was the case until a few days)

gonna keep beating this drum, but none of those platforms regardless of content format have >50% of the content be about the platform itself this in my opinion is a major barrier to entry for new people

plus I’ll find myself reading extremely long captions on TikTok and scour the text based comments.

so your point is that farcaster needs to become another tiktok/instagram/twitter/linkedin/threads/substack? does it sound like farcaster is missing something crucial? like wow we dont have vertical videos -> does that make farcaster broken? i dont think so. it just tries to become a second tiktok to be a more attractive platform to other people. am i missing something? im leaning towards innovation (it is hard to do, it is a difficult path, and people in 2025 dont really like innovations). and you call the opposite decision 'stupid' -> can you elaborate? why sameness = better and different = broken?
