early fuzz pedals like the fuzz face and tone bender were a huge game changer for guitarists in the mid-60s before that there was no way to make that sound except plugging directly into a console and turning the gain all the way up, e.g. helter skelter perhaps blues, bebop and rockabilly?

In a way, Buddy Holly and Elvis were those guys. “Dangerous” at the time, they’d keep their fan bases but become corny compared to when The Beatles came onto the scene and the 60’s started to swing.
