To celebrate the sunsetting of Sora, I want to share my metrics from my newly non-ghost-town YouTube channel.
Before Sora, I really had not posted much to my YouTube channel at all. As a writer who likes their privacy and hates being on camera, it is hard to come up with video content for platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
Around the beginning of February, I got the idea to start using Sora to jumpstart my YouTube channel.
In two months, I was able to get almost 50,000 views, 34 subscribers, and over two full days of watch time for my mental health Shorts videos from a channel that started at literally zero.
I transparently haven't felt great the past couple of months mentally, and this was a nice pet project to focus my emotional thoughts on and channel them into (pun intended). Writing blog posts is nice, and I enjoy them, but this was a nice change of pace. One big plus was that it didn't require nearly the amount of time physically sitting down in front of a computer, since I can prompt from my phone, but I don't write long-form on my phone.
I had set a goal to get this channel to 100 subscribers by the end of 2026. I hope to keep that goal (and crush it), but I am going to take some time to figure out my next steps on how I want to do video going forward.
Any suggestions or thoughts are welcome; I want to hear about what you've tinkered with and what your thoughts are.
