I get asked why people don't see as many Hawaiian monk seals on Maui as other islands... they are there. This is a 23-year-old Maui resident, #MonkSealRQ21, but with less people on nearby islands like Moloka'i and Kaho‘olawe, seals will often seek less crowded beaches.

A Monk Seal Monday tradition to celebrate Halloween... Holokai's little green goblin costume.
Before his very first molt, the algae had grown so thick in his fur that it created the dark green mask around his eyes.

Kauai is an amazing place for our Hawaiian monk seals, and I found this unidentified female seal snoozing on the beach with a fresh new coat of fur. Isn't she beautiful?

I often say I’ve had a camera in my hand as long as I can remember, & that my mother handed down her old Minolta 110 film camera to me when I was 5 or 6.
Today, I found some of my oldest photos… told you I took photos of frogs, turtles, & toads in my backyard.

Definitely fun to be back home in Hawaii. I made a stop at Laniakea Beach (aka Turtle Beach) and took a portrait of Wooley Bully, who is over 50 years old.

Oh wow... well, it might be after midnight in NYC, but it's still #MonkSealMonday in Hawaii!
Very excited to see one of my Hawaiian monk seals collected tonight, and I look forward to making a donation on RL42's behalf. With a little luck, I'll even see her and a pup soon!
