Earlier this year, I (re)joined the fediverse through an experiment of the Search Engine and Hard Fork podcasts. They started a Mastodon server called Forkiverse. I thought it was a nice idea, and a good step to really start exploring the fediverse. The experiment of the Forkiverse is ending, so now I need to find a new fediverse home. In itself that's not an issue, but it also underlines one of the innate weakpoints of the fediverse, especially if you compare it to a system where user accounts and social graphs are stored at protocol level. Such as Farcaster. That approach is, in this aspect, far superior to the mastodon approach. If a Farcaster client fails, the protocol still stands. You can log on at any time, and for any reason, at any client with one account and one social graph. No migration needed. Anyway.... I'm now looking for a new Mastodon server to join. Suggestions are welcome.

"I am going write-only on social media for a bit." That's not social, that is broadcasting. We did that before. What's the point of social, when you're not open to engagement? arkeshare

Update pushed to Arke, the bridge from Farcaster to other open social networks. Today I've added Lens. Now you can connect your lens profile and autopost to Mastodon, Bluesky and Lens by simply adding the share keyword to your cast. Arke allows 2 connected platforms for free, to add an additional network, you will need 1 Million $ARKE in your wallet. arkeshare

At Farcon Rome last May, Rish (CEO of Farcaster steward Neynar) talked about composable social. On Farcaster, like on other platforms such as Telegram, mini apps are a thing. These are apps that run in the client you use for your social networking. There are games, shows, coin launchers, wallet cleaners, long-read apps, art creation apps, middleware apps and the list goes on. Additionally, Farcaster launched snaps: interactive posts. Short-lived single-purpose applications. From polls to tip jars to collaborative poetry creation tools to a full-blown minesweeper variant that can be played in the feed. Sure, there is a risk management element to this. And of course that needs to be taken seriously. But still, composable social is something that has a future. Especially with AI enabling all of us to create something fun or useful in a few minutes. So why is this functionality missing from Bluesky and Mastodon at the moment? Or am I missing something? arkeshare
