rented an all-electric vehicle for a roadtrip involving a long drive into a large and entirely rural volcanic plateau with _very_ few fast chargers
observations:
1. EVs are remarkable for city driving and short trips in urban areas. in rural areas they have many downsides
2. charging capacity when the majority of cars are EVs will probably be a problem? it's was already an issue on the A7 (in france)
3. the logic of trip planning is fundamentally different with an EV
4. predictive range analytics given terrain/temp are mid af (renault's anyway) but will def get better because everything is instrumented
5. the UX of trip-planning around charging stations is spectacularly bad. the charging mapping apps are ok for stations and terrible for other points of interest. the handoff to google maps is clunky af.
6. a passably decent rural restaurant with a moderately fast charger would absolutely clean up around lunch and dinner, and would work as an all-day concept.
