I’m realizing that all my critiques of Spotify’s algorithm were really a result of AI drift. Actively tending to it dramatically improves the outputs over time.
I’ve been noting activities that keep me driving:
- In-app feedback mechanisms (disliking songs/artists I don’t want to hear again, being more selective of which to add to playlists)
- Regular manual discovery to introduce variety and set standards — rabbit holes encouraged.
- Switching to podcasts to give my brain a break from music and a chance to get back in touch with what I actually WANT to listen to
- Fewer auto-radio stations
(Still preferring Apple Music for active listening sessions, and “journaling” in Spotify more)
