On September 1st something unbelievable happened in Dublin. The Irish football team was playing their second leg of the play off match against The Netherlands. The away game ended in a draw, so it really was winner take all in this match. All being a ticket to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
It was a tight match, until Jason McAteer put the ball in the net for the Irish, winning the game, and the world cup ticket.
That evening, at Slane Castle, Irish rock band U2 had a comcert. When they played their hit Beautiful Day, they incorporated this football result into the song, with Bono singing “what a beautiful goal, goal, the goal is so beautiful.”
After all these years, as a Dutchie, I can now enjoy this great performance of that great song, without much of the pain of not qualifying.

Such a tough match. England is favorite but Norway is loose & has nothing else to prove. Haaland seems relaxed too relaxe

bellingham is such a weird player, england need central penetration via passing which is what you'd expect from your 10 typically but bellingham doesn't bring much of that to the table.
but you also can't just drop bellingham because he brings so much to the team besides the passing.
with each passing day not taking wharton seems like a bigger mistake to me (trent too).
