📣 Let's talk about DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations)

Tomorrow 10am PT: Let's Talk About DAOs! **Homework:** Identify blind spots we've seen in DAOs, projects, or in ourselves as individuals, that contributed to things not working out Come prepared to share: • Structural blind spots in DAO design • Personal blind spots that affected participation • Collective blind spots that led to failures • What you learned from examining these This week we covered: content repurposing workflows, signaling as free speech, why "DAOs are dead" is wrong, philosophy as foundation, process before protocol, and learning through failure. As @durgadas.eth said: "Everybody's got some kind of blind spot. This is the DAO experience" As @trigs.eth said: "Failure is good because the more opportunities to learn the better" Time to examine what we missed. "I've always liked the idea that you could get tokens every time you buy coffee from Starbucks. A way for people to signal what they care about and feel ownership over more things in our lives" - @thethriller on DAO-enabled loyalty His vision: "Those tokens don't have to represent ownership of Starbucks - they could be some side DAO that has legal rights, some kind of funding from the company. Now it's just a better way of engaging people" The broader context: "In a world where it's increasingly common for people not to own a car, not to own a house, not to own anything - we're even renting our cell phones - to actually have ownership over more of the things in our lives, maybe there's some positive psychological effect versus a world where we own nothing" Property is good. People feel better when they have it. Listen to the full discussion: https://x.com/i/spaces/1BdGYZNmDgzJX Join next week: https://x.com/i/spaces/1rmGPvbmrDyxN

"Everybody's got some kind of blind spot. This is the DAO experience - I don't know that we do enough of this in DAOs where we're getting together and talking about what blind spots do we all have that we need to accommodate for" - @durgadas.eth His insight on solutions: "You might find somebody who organically compensates for your blind spot, but it's also on you to improve that skill. It could be a structural thing, could be something personal" The key question: "What's the blind spot that you have when participating in DAOs? Make it so next time you're experiencing a DAO situation you might have a better experience, or what's something you need to learn and grow to do better" The proposal: Make blind spot identification a regular part of DAO calls and processes. What if we built this into our culture? Listen to the full discussion: https://x.com/i/spaces/1BdGYZNmDgzJX Join next week: https://x.com/i/spaces/1rmGPvbmrDyxN

"Failure is opportunities to learn. The more opportunities to learn the better - we get smarter and can close our blind spots through the things we learned" - @trigs.eth "Examining why things failed is important. Taking the time to examine those blind spots is crucial in order to really process and integrate the lessons we can extract from these failures" Why DAOs are especially valuable for this: "DAOs give us opportunities to get exposure to our blind spots in a collaborative supportive environment - or at least that's the idea" Two approaches to blind spots: 1. Personal improvement: "Take responsibility to learn something new and apply that skill" 2. Outsourcing: "Recognize your blind spot and outsource it to the community" Both paths work. The key is acknowledging the blind spot exists first. Listen to the full discussion: https://x.com/i/spaces/1BdGYZNmDgzJX Join next week: https://x.com/i/spaces/1rmGPvbmrDyxN

"We're building out signature economies. When we're signaling, we know it's genuinely us leaving our unique signature on every single signal" - @bestape on proof of human The problem he's solving: How do we distinguish between human signals and AI? "We're leaving our unique signature on every single signal. It's on distributed compute so no party can take down that signal we've made" The legal angle: "From an evidence perspective, this is what ethereum allows us to do - settle who said what, who signaled what" @bestape's focus: "Sovereignty tech - expressing our voice whenever and however and organizing with each other through sophisticated processes together" The dream: Maintain sovereignty through verifiable, uncensorable signaling infrastructure. Not tokens for speculation. Tokens for authentic human coordination. Listen to the full discussion: https://x.com/i/spaces/1BdGYZNmDgzJX Join next week: https://x.com/i/spaces/1rmGPvbmrDyxN

"If we are very clear all we're doing are signals, then that is freedom of assembly, freedom of speech. We should not have to deal with fiat regulators because it's about expression" - @bestape reframing tokens The shift: From hyper-financialized tokens → tokens as communication The revolutionary feature: "The ability for people to permissionlessly signal their values. That's something that doesn't exist in this world. Every form of democracy and Republic representation - they're all gated through processes where your voice is censored by people who represent you" Uncensored signaling = "one of the most unique innovations of the existence of humanity" When we figure out how to unlock this for everyone, it changes how people engage across the world. "DAOs never fully lived yet. The primitives are finally getting there. Patience - nothing's died that hasn't been born yet. We're still in the process" - @trigs.eth The impatience problem: Crypto moves fast, but fundamental coordination infrastructure takes time. We're not in a product cycle - we're in a civilizational infrastructure build. @bestape's framing: Think about the Amazon one-click purchase. "That is already a DAO type technology - something that wasn't possible in an analog world. Legal costs have plummeted to the point where it's just a click" We already have DAO-like convenience in e-commerce. We're building toward that level of convenience "in so many areas of our lives." The question isn't "did DAOs fail?" It's "are we patient enough to build the infrastructure properly?" "I've been seeing quite a bit on X people saying DAOs have failed. That's not what is happening. The primitives are finally here" - @bestape countering the dead DAO narrative @trigs.eth adds: "DAOs never fully lived yet. The primitives are finally getting there. Patience - nothing's died that hasn't been born yet. We're still in the process" The actual state of play: The foundational tools are coming online. Legal formalism is moving from analog/printed to fully digital. The "tensions" we're experiencing are growing pains. "Almost like a snake wanting to shed its skin - time to shed that skin and be fully in legal formalism" Stop declaring things dead. Start building with the new primitives. "The opportunity is we can form teams to work towards a common goal. Whatever value is for your group - that's why DAOs are exciting, besides all the 'does it need a token' questions" - @svenh cutting through the technical debates The actual question: Can we coordinate in ways that weren't possible before? @svenh got into DAOs by asking: "How can we form teams in a non-centralized or permissionless way? Why is that not being done at scale?" "Instead of just coming together and playing the same game or talking about the same things, maybe we can actually create something that makes our lives better or generates financial wealth" From finding your tribe online → building value together. Whether that's financial wealth, social wealth, creative output, or something else your group defines - that's the unlock. Listen to the full discussion: https://x.com/i/spaces/1BdGYZNmDgzJX

"The internet allowed us to find our tribes - people who think similar, have similar values or goals. Building organizations on top of this decentralized status quo - that's the value unlock" - @svenh The shift: From finding your people online → actually creating value together "Instead of just coming together and playing the same game or talking about the same things, maybe we can actually create something that makes our lives better or generates financial wealth" That's the definition of why DAOs are exciting - beyond all the technical questions about tokens or on-chain requirements. "Working towards something in a fashion that we don't need to go to as commonplace - that's what makes DAOs exciting" From tribes to builders. From consumers to co-creators. "Repurposing content is the best way for organizations, especially DAOs, to use social media. So much value is shared in these experiences we have together that can be repurposed and reused" - @trigs.eth on DAO content strategy Why this matters: Community calls and written work contain massive value that disappears if you only share it once. @durgadas.eth describes the simple workflow: "Take your article, have AI write 20-25 tweets, post 2-3 times a day about aspects of the article, pin it to your profile" The approach: Extract the wisdom already being shared in your community. Make it accessible. Draw new people into the conversation. This isn't just marketing - it's amplifying the value you're already creating together.
