It's so weird that @vitalik.eth and the EF do a lot to reduce centralization and trustedness at every level of the tech and social stack, yet they fail to even properly acknowledge the centralization and trustedness of the block explorer monopoly. (continue)

Is your favorite "human-readable" block explorer actually human readable? Linea for Humans is. @linea by @consensys

By entering the block explorer provider (EaaS) market, we rendered the place more efficient and more competitive. More efficient because we made all our competitors get their prices down, both on the long tail and high tier. More competitive because we quickly reached feature parity with the industry feature set and UI/UX and added native multichain views. We disrupted the market in less than 12 months, I'm very proud of this.

PSA that some chains are still paying at least 1M/year to Etherscan for the explorer. My guesses: - BNB Chain (over than 1M, but through staking rewards) - OP Mainnet: around 1.5M - Arbitrum: more than 1.5M for Nova and One - Moonbeam - Cronos - BTTC - Celo - Gnosis - Linea - Scroll - WEMIX / Kroma - ZKSync The others that I didn’t mention could be paying 500-700k for what I know. Still don’t understand why spend so much money on a single provider when market is much more efficient than this.

4 years ago today, a small team of 5 people with a grant launched a block explorer for the Avalanche community. We didn’t know anything about how to build such a product, but we knew we wanted to have an impact. 4 years later, the team has grown 4x and is a group full of very talented people that are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with a block explorer, by reducing the pricing and increasing the quality by an order of magnitude, thereby becoming widely recognized by the whole industry. I’m so proud of what we did, and can’t wait to see what’s next.

Sad to see a very good experiment in reimagining the block explorer shutting down. I liked the horizontal navigation. But I know Jordan will make something better 😎

I honestly know very little about this, because I guess that nobody knows anything about this. What is a successful way of monetizing a block explorer that doesn't rely on a chain paying for it?

L3s ain’t working. I mean, they are live, but they don’t make money onchain. What’s the way to sustainability? Does it need to be offchain? Every chain needs a block explorer. But if a gaming L3 is not financially sustainable, who pays for it? https://jaack.montaigne.io/how-to-sustain-block-explorers-for-l-3-s

We have an impactful goal for EOY: 100% align with the most powerful contract verification system. This is part of our efforts for the @verifalliance and our quest to make the whole industry get rid of the block explorer monopoly. Competition is okay, monopoly is risky.
