The Ambient Outpost livestream channels have totally hooked me. I can listen to them morning, noon, and night and still crave more. Yesterday I found one I loved called "Deep Space: Abandoned Spaceship." I returned to listen to it today and it's been replaced by others. Maybe the channel rotates them...? But today I found one I love even more: "The Deep: Underwater Station." Reminds me of early Lustmord in some ways. (For anyone who's not familiar with Lustmord, that's a high compliment). If you like the darker side of ambient, give this a listen. Think I'll leave this one on all day and night. 🖤 💀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu_RKgGXcJE

Alva Noto (Carsten Nicolai) is a musician from Germany. Founder of the NOTON music label. He has performed and created installations in many of the world's most prestigious spaces including the Guggenheim, New York, the SF MoMA, Modern Art Oxford, NTT Tokyo, Tate Modern and Venice Biennale, Italy. He also has compositions in feature films like The Revenant. One of my favourite tracks from him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOGy4-SeDvY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carsten_Nicolai

Another excellent new 30-min. binaural bass track. Love the tunneling visuals and the low meditative drones. Haven't tried it for sleep, but I find it works well for deep focus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR2FpWNo-7Y

Every September, usually right around the equinox, I get the urge to sit in front of the window with a cup of tea, watch the autumn leaves fall, and put "September Dirge" by Svartsinn on repeat for hours. This year is no exception. What have you been listening to lately, fellow ambient fans? https://svartsinn.bandcamp.com/track/september-dirge

Every now and then the YT algo suggests some dark ambient music that checks most or all of the boxes on my finicky list of preferences: no vocals or sudden tempo changes, meditative, at least an hour long, etc. Even better if the art, track titles, etc. focus on monastic, esoteric, and/or architectural themes. If you like the dark + brooding styles of ambient, give this a listen. It's repetitive enough that I don't listen to it on repeat back-to-back, but for just one hour it really hits the spot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlP8B0KrJxk

Here's another favorite from the Ambient Outpost channel I discovered a few weeks ago. I've now listened to most of the channel's back catalogue, and I have a list of favorites. Many of the tracks include "radio chatter" in the background, but I find that distracting so I only chose tracks without it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSThsDe93ok

Blast from the past: the first in a series of three "guest columnist" blog posts I wrote about dark ambient music for I Die: You Die back in 2013. From my mini-review of "The End of Greatness" by Mulm: "There’s a timeless quality here... I predict that the album will still sound just as fresh in 15 or 20 years, and I’ll still be enjoying its company as if it were a beloved old friend – the same way I do with such dark ambient classics as Ulf Söderberg’s Nattljus or Apoptose’s glacial ambient masterpiece Nordland." Today I'm listening to "Night Water Reflection," 13 years after the release of the Mulm album. Still sounds fresh to me indeed. https://www.idieyoudie.com/2013/12/05/the-idud-dozen-12-underrated-dark-ambient-lps/ https://cycliclaw.bandcamp.com/track/night-water-reflection

Discovered this ambient channel thanks to a recent cast by @stevedylandev.eth and I'm slowly listening to 2-3 of these multi-hour loops each day while I work. Good stuff. Here's one of my favorites so far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J3aNLJ0p0Q

Any MyNoise fans here? Stéphane just released a new soundscape called "The Architect's Eclipse." I switched the slider settings to the "Monolith Dream" option, which is my favorite mix by a wide margin. Listened to it for 10 hours while writing today. https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/ionStreamSpaceAmbientGenerativeMusic.php

Love it when I find out from a fellow dark ambient music nerd that a musician I've been following on Bandcamp for years (Iron Cthulhu Apocalypse) has a new channel on YT that I hadn't heard about. Insta-subscribe.
