Tonight it all comes to an end. The “nit del foc” has arrived—a bittersweet night when ephemeral art disappears, only to be born again. For the flames of San Juan’s night burn away the bad, and the purifying fire brings us a new beginning…
The bonfire (foguera) I liked the most was a children’s one called “CASA.” An open structure revealing everyday scenes—simple realities of daily life. A minimalist and intimate piece, crafted from the truths of living together.

Baver-Els Antigons bonfire won first prize at Alicante Fogueres.

The artist, Pere Baenas, called it “Vanity” and it’s all about poking fun at how obsessed we are with appearances these days—really clever and spot on.
Tonight they’re actually burning it in this crazy fireworks show (the “Cremà”). If you’re around, you’ve got to check it out—it’s honestly one of the coolest things in Alicante.
Plus, a lot of these bonfires have little hidden messages that explain the ideas and jokes behind them, so keep an eye out before they all go up in flames!
