My relationship to my personal substack has become quite tenuous recently. I wrote about twice a month regularly for over 2 years and thought it had become a calcified habit but in the third year and beyond it started becoming once a month now it’s once every 1-2 months. Goes to show that sometimes discipline and actively choosing to do something is sometimes disguised as a habit.

gm from the degen app intial thoughts: - onboarding super smooth, clear, easy to connect existing farcaster app - UI crisp, is it native swift @jacek ? - i like the emphasis on channels, communities - unclear how the 🏆 tab works or what its all about - thought i saw jacek post about emoji reactions for posts but i dont see that anywhere - cast creation is nice, i like the prompt for channel selection but the keyboard doesnt do autocorrect. whyyyy? need it! I’m finding it much harder to type here excited to have @jacek on @gmfarcaster soon and happy alt client season!

Ok so who makes New Year’s resolutions ? I only started really getting into them in the past 5 years and I wish I had done them sooner because they seem to work. When I first started I did intentions which were more broadly general directions instead of specific resolutions but that worked so well I’ve started making them more specific. I haven’t decided exactly what mine will be yet but I started writing down ideas in my notes app and will document them in the next few weeks. When I wonder why I didn’t start sooner in my life I think it comes down to 2 things: - working at large companies we would do annual goal setting and I put a lot of my energy into work and that probably satisfied the itch to make a resolution - I think I was a little scared of failure and subconsciously preferred to not commit to anything and avoid failure over making a resolution I wouldn’t keep Timeline feels pretty negative to me at the moment, but I personally find this time of year to be the most optimistic, a time to look inward and reflect on the past year and make some decisions about how to make the next year even better

Used cursor for 40% of my days this year. I didn’t expect to see it so high. Cool to see vacations visualized as empty space too, longest time away was while eagle hunting in Mongolia in September

I'm not starting any new projects for the rest of the year. The only allowable work: - Day to day operations (like @gmfarcaster episodes) - Refactoring, deferred maintenance, clean up across the portfolio - Design & planning for a new miniapp - Writing - Reflecting - A little biz dev for my consulting company but that mostly just looks like catch up calls with people in my network

RIP work productivity this week. Hosting thanksgiving this year and had a few prep items to do each day, but I keep getting sucked into doing more. Like for today all I was supposed to do was put the turkey in the brine and prep the gravy base. And now I’ve been convinced to make turkey stock for the gravy using what comes inside the turkey (heart, neck, gizzard) which I am sure will be worth it but adds an extra 90 minutes. ChatGPT is actually an incredible kitchen coach- I’m pretty comfortable with basics and using ChatGPT to plan everything and guide me as I go. Oldest kid comes home from college today. Probably want to spend more time with her and as a family than doing work which can wait until next week. This is the 3rd holiday season after losing my mom, who was such a matriarch and the best grandmother to my kids, and it’s the first one that doesn’t hurt as bad- maybe the first one I’m looking forward to, and I think it helps I’m hosting bc I can put energy into that. We *are* doing @gmfarcaster tomorrow but all my longer term project based work and work for my other gigs can wait. Work like a lion, not a cow.

Some stream of consciousness thoughts about Farcaster and my time and energy: - I’ve been a habitual Farcaster user for almost 3 years - I think a sufficiently decentralized social network protocol that guarantees identity ownership and is censorship resistant is important, and a net positive for a future society - I agree with Dan and Varun’s stance that unless they solve for growth nothing else matters - I’ve been building @gmfarcaster with @nounishprof for 2 years, our success inherently tied to the growth of farcaster - I see myself as an engineer, a business owner, a learner, a tinkerer, an investor, a spiritual being, an extrovert, and an optimist. - I am not a trader. I am not against traders as a group (I married one), but I’m not at all interested in extractive behavior, zero sum games, insider trading. - Human behavior is human behavior, I’m not trying to change that but I can choose where to spend my time and energy. Regarding time and energy: - I started casting into /adrienne this week. I can’t wait explain why but I think it’s a reaction to the trader hype content I’m seeing more of. - I have an idea for a new miniapp that I’m really excited about. It’s more complicated then anything I’ve built on farcaster so far, I spent this week writing out the concept, making wire frames, starting to think about the technical components. - I’m excited to travel to Buenos Aires this week, I’m going to do some sightseeing. - I’m excited to host family for Thanksgiving the next week. 🫡 💜

Online discourse tries so hard to funnel people into a monolith (related: pluribus 📺) with one correct way of thinking, one correct path to success, one correct way to live And then I go out into the real world and I’m reminded how beautifully huge and diverse and rich the human experience is 🌈
