sometimes when i’m eating healthy delicious things (🙏) I think about the starving children I’ve met on the streets of India and my heart just stops. I just can’t imagine in this world of crazy abundance, what it must be like to be an innocent being destitute for nourishment and warmth.
there are some things we all know but keep out of view because if we held them in proportion to their weight, life would be too heavy. what I hope is that despite that, I hold onto it, that knowing of what we owe humanity to do and be the most I can about it, however I can, with whatever I have.
to be iron-clad while staying thin-skinned is a superpower. you can have wealth and power and planes aplenty, but you will always betray your façade for something small with a heart of stone.

by one measure, every emotion is some configuration of love or the absence of it. some emotions, like joy, are quietly rarified because they can only exist on the precondition of a love that you carry, not something temporary. sadness is the weight of a disconnect from love. hope is a bridge to, elation is an expansion of, anger is a denial of and rage is its rejection.
in this paradigm grief might be the most interesting emotion because it is in equal measure love’s truest mirror and its total void.

Whenever I make a restaurant reservation, I choose the “celebration” option from the drop down menu.
And when we arrive and they ask what we’re celebrating, I say “Life.”
