Archbishop Khachatur Kasaratsi (1805–1882) was one of the most prominent religious and cultural figures in 19th-century Armenia. As the Archbishop of the Armenian Church, he played an important role in the restoration and strengthening of the religious and cultural identity of the Armenians. Kasaratsi was not only interested in religious matters during his time, but was also active in social and educational fields. He especially made great efforts in the development of religious education and the preservation of the Armenian language and culture during times of political and social hardship. Kasaratsi also played an effective role in maintaining and strengthening the ties of the Armenian Church with other world churches.
