Thought this was interesting, there's a research paper "Pettiness in Social Exchange" that found 81% of participants preferred to be friends with the person who paid back their friends in round numbers vs exact numbers because it felt less transactional

I think about this all the time, definitely one of the weird nuances of social interactions. I often just toss the total into a calculator, divide by number of people, and then use the result. Feels like it's more work to round up or down especially if you already have the exact amount. For things without the exact amount I agree rounding is good though.

I do this. Like just the another night I covered the bill and it seemed easier to just plug it into a calculator and use the decimal numbers when requesting $
