In my 'day job' I manage a team of 10-12 people. I sometimes wonder if I am or will ever be someone's "favorite" manager/boss. there are a few folks over the course of my career who've made a huge impact on how I work and I hope that I am or will be that kind of figure for my people. anyways, back to my trench

from my smol experience managing humans / and other managers of humans i’d say indexing on being liked throttles people’s growth longer term. indexing on their growth could help them grow (short-mid term) AND could, maybe someday, much later, make you their favorite manager. but i’ve found fav manager is a “global lagging indicator” of one’s success as a manager.

I 10000% agree -- what made me think of this was congratulating someone for finally taking time off. I don't know many managers who are celebrating team members who take PTO, but they should. I'm not a regular manager, I'm a cool manager!
