Why are we investing in video?

I've been spending a lot of time recently talking to users. Our goal is to figure out how we can get people to invite their friends to Farcaster. If we can solve this, Farcaster will grow.

When asking why people aren't inviting their friends to Farcaster, the overwhelming reason is they spend most of their time on TikTok / Instagram / YouTube (no X / Twitter).

So, video.

But how does this compete with established video apps that already have strong network effects? At first glance, adding video features seems to only serve a subset of users who want to post content—is there a broader strategy here?
