(1/2) What does "community" really mean? There was a /citynouns member proposal defeated last night. Some are disappointed. Some are relieved. And some are celebrating in the open, as if it were a battle between good and evil, the insiders and outsiders, the haves and have-nots. That's a problem. DAO spaces are experiments in shared power, and that means things will break. When a community is reduced to sides — when disagreement becomes division, and debate turns into disdain — we’ve already lost more than a proposal. How should we move through moments like this? In partnership or with pitchforks? Community isn't just shared goals; it's shared responsibility. It's being accountable not just for your vote, but for your tone, your words, your presence. It’s letting people be human instead of turning them into characters in a story about who's right and who's ruined everything.

(2/2) DAO work is hard. It brings up power, identity, ego, money, values, and it asks us to collaborate through all of it, in public, with imperfect tools and real consequences. But that's the work. So if you're frustrated right now or tired — I get it. I've felt all those things too. I just want to say: thanks for sticking around anyway. Thanks for choosing process over performance. Thanks for staying open to the idea that none of us have it all figured out even when some think they do. That's what makes a community. If you're out there gloating — celebrating without empathy or awareness of others — I hope you'll do better in the future. Being a member of a community isn't about wins or losses. It's not just about which proposals pass or fail. It's about how we treat each other in the space between. That’s the part that lasts. That’s the part that defines us.
