Not a subtstantive discussion, which would have to take into account the very large American fiscal deficits, which are partly covered by foreign debtors, which leads directly to Americans having to recycle the funds by buying foreign goods and services. In any case, the proper measure is the US trade deficit -- i.e., by how much its imports exceeds its exports. So far, the trade deficit has gone up, and while it's true that it has been due to American importers stocking up ahead of tariffs, in the long run American exports are also going to decline because other countries will impose countervailing duties on US goods and services.
