📍 Federici’s in Freehold, NJ
Stopped by here for lunch on the recommendation of some friends who grew up in the area and it didn’t disappoint!
We started with a Caesar and their house salad (forgot to take pics but you can imagine). The Caesar was solid, with a nice garlicky punch and great breadcrumbs. The house salad was simple: lettuce, tomato, onion with slices of cheese and salami. But what takes it over the edge is their homemade creamy Italian dressing which we were told not to miss. And now we get the hype! Everyone had a bottle of this stuff on their table, it’s like an Italian dressing with the creaminess of ranch — unique and very good.
They have a full Italian menu but the main event is their thin crust pizza. On the recommendation of our server, we went with the (off-menu) chicken vodka parm and did a build-your-own white pie with meatballs, garlic, and onions (heard good things about the buffalo chicken too, will have to try that next time).
The pizzas were quite different from each other, which provided a nice balance, and both were very good. Nice ratio of sauce to cheese to toppings and a crispy cracker crust. The move here is to add their creamy Italian dressing to the pizza just as you would do with ranch and it was a welcome addition, maybe even better than ranch.
Overall great vibes at this spot and yummy food. Reasonable prices and friendly, attentive service too! You can tell it's been a staple of the community for a long time and for good reason. While I enjoyed the food, I don't think I would drive too far out of my way to come here but would definitely stop in if I was in the area.
