⛏️ BITCOIN BLOCKS: A How-To Guide
What is it?
Bitcoin Blocks is a prediction game. Each round, players guess how many transactions will be in the next mined Bitcoin block. Closest guess wins.
🏆 Prizes
🥇 1st Place: 2000 $Seconds
🥈 2nd Place: 1000 $Seconds
🎯 Jackpot: Guess the exact number and win 1st prize + a growing jackpot (500 $Seconds added each round).
⏰ When Can You Guess?
A round starts when I post the round announcement.
You can submit a guess any time after that.
Your guess must be timestamped at least 1 minute before the block is mined, based on the official time recorded by mempool.space.
Any guesses after that cutoff are invalid.
Note: I’ll align Farcaster timestamps and the Bitcoin block times using my timezone (AEST) to ensure accuracy.
📩 How to Play
Comment your guess on the round post.
Make sure it's posted at least 1 minute before the block is confirmed.
One guess per player per round. Posting multiple guesses or deleting and reposting your guess will result in disqualification, as it could unfairly influence other players' chances.
📊 Smart Guessing: Strategy Tips
- Bitcoin blocks typically contain 2000–4000+ transactions, but it varies.
- mempool.space shows live forecasts of likely transaction counts — a great starting point.
- Watch other guesses. If someone already guessed 3,270 and you guess 3,271, you're limiting your chances. Spread out.
- Acting early gives you first claim on the best guesses — and protects against tie penalties.
- Acting later gives you more data (like mempool changes or others’ guesses), but carries the risk of missing the cut-off.
👔 Tie Rules
If two people submit the same guess:
1st to post: 80% of prize
2nd: 20%
3rd+: invalid
For exact guesses, only the first wins the jackpot.
📏 Block Results
Final transaction count and mining time pulled directly from mempool.space after the block is confirmed.
❓ Common Questions
What if the block is delayed?
If a block takes longer than expected to mine, the round will still end when it’s confirmed. Please keep an eye on mempool.space for updates.
Can I change my guess after posting?
No. Once your guess is posted, it is final. Reposting will result in disqualification.
What happens if a block confirms zero transactions?
While rare (about 1 in 100 blocks), if a block confirms zero transactions, the prize pool (excluding the jackpot) will be split evenly among all players who participated in the round. Note: The jackpot, however, will carry over to the next round.
❗Disputes
If something’s unclear or contested, I’ll review all timestamps and info to make a fair decision. 8 replies
