Another poster by the Medu Art Ensemble created in 1981 features the famous chant “You strike a woman, you strike a rock,” honoring Black women’s strength in the fight against apartheid. Made in Botswana while in exile using linocut style, it shows a woman with a raised fist and bold text linking gender and political struggle. Created and shared secretly, it was meant to inspire, educate, and empower. It remains a powerful symbol of Black feminist resistance in South Africa.
