“You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.” It’s strange when you try to help someone. When you pull them out of the abyss. When you hold them, support them, spend your energy trying to lift them up. And then you suddenly realize they didn’t need saving. They were comfortable down there. And you’re left standing with empty hands, feeling morally shattered. Not because you failed. But because you wanted it more than they did. It’s a sobering lesson: we can offer a hand, but we cannot make someone hold it. And maybe real maturity is learning not to jump into someone else’s abyss just to prove you care. And I hope that one day I’ll stop doing that
