Fun fact about polar bears! Polar bears have black skin, not white! Their fur looks white, but it's actually transparent and hollow. It reflects light, making them appear white and helping them blend into snowy surroundings. Underneath? Jet black skin to absorb and retain heat from the sun. 2. They can overheat even in the Arctic! Polar bears are so well insulated with thick fur and a fat layer (up to 4.5 inches thick) that they can actually get too hot when running or during warmer days. This is a real life size comparison of a polar bear’s height to that of a human, crazy right?
