The conservative and royalist establishment who cater to Thailand's wealthiest have long weaponized Lèse-majesté against their political opponents. I live here, and most Thais I know want systematic change. All this political drama continues to keep the economy in a constant state of torpor, which exacerbates the birth rate crisis that will see people getting old without a younger workforce to replace them. In twenty years time, Thailand will sink below Vietnam on the income scale ... and possible on par with Cambodia, which will add insult to injury from a Thai perspective. It breaks my heart that this wonderful country has such a bleak future.
