My side hustle is renovating our 60s MCM style house. Here’s a before > after of part of our kitchen renovation we just finished. We reconfigured the layout to support a full range wall, which was tricky to accommodate given the age of the house and the low pitched roof customary to MCM era houses but we think it was worth it. I’m a big fan of midcentury, 70s and Japanese modernism - styles we tried to capture with this design.

I normally like to do demo but this was a bigger job than I could handle alone so I hired it out at the lowest cost possible. I got my moneys worth because they left an entire half wall that the wouldn’t remove because they said it was “load bearing”. “It’s not”, I replied, structural engineer’s certificate in hand. But I had them leave anyways and finished the demo myself.

Yeah good point. But inside the ceiling is an 18 inch steel I-Beam so the house shouldn’t fall down.
