something ive been obsessed with lately are these micro dramas / short form content. reelshort and a ton of these micro dramas that acquire users on tiktok are doing a tremendous amounts in revenue. if you annualize their jan 2025 numbers, reelshort did ~$375m in gross revenue !!!! most of these "production companies" are based in china. i think not along before a US-based entertainment company tries to do what quibi was not able to. would love to chat with any companies building here. specifically, working with creators, using micropayments on stablecoin rails. fwiw, i think it could be a super interesting @farcaster client.

short form micro dramas have already become a $12b+ industry, and continues to explode. in china, this has been huge already. recently, we've seen alot of chinese tech + consumer behaviors get exported back to the west. for instance, tiktok's for you page, live commerce & shopping, and now micro-dramas. as attention spans continue to dwindle, younger generations are looking for quicker dopamine hits, and somehow these low-production content has become very popular... and a cash cow.

hollywood is also entering the chat. Lionsgate, TelevisaUnivision, Hallmark and CAA are all experimenting with “mini-dramas” after seeing ReelShort’s traction.
