into a fully sealed, fully taped 6/5 wetsuit, then shouldered into an open-circuit

scuba, nodded to the semicircle of friends (also in suits & scuba sets),

and held your breath out of habit as you slipped the ocean’s surface and began to descend.

on the way down you listened to the people you love

say satellite, supernova, cluster. all you heard was home. 

you breathed and breathed and breathed, and the holy-holy around you grew thick with itself.

blinking into the night sea, you felt
the bite

tabs of your mouthpiece and remembered: suck air, grand jeté, buoy up, repeat.

meanwhile: her charcoal canal sucked at your crown. for the first time you felt

fear, tasted it in the cove of your mouth.  

through the pelvic inlet of her sweating wishbone

hips you slipped. her skeletal system unhinged and she swore

never again—until the sight of your vernix, that waxen varnish of wet skin slough,
 
the moat surrounding the castle of your body

Noiceness is not what I am searching for.  

Real is.

There is nothing more real than this.
