Among many things one could say about the io announcement, top of mind for me is the sovereign individual aspect. The lede is about two people working together.

Basically the idea that technology is hyper empowering individuals and we see historical anomalies, e.g. the USA spend billions to get an individual (bin Laden).

To this situation: I think 50 to 100 years ago it would be surprising if a merger story was anchored on two people wanting to work together.

Part of the Sovereign Individual thesis/affect is that we’re headed towards a world of celebrities for everything. Every profession/thing will have celebrities that get traded like sports stars today. 

Feels like we’re already seeing dramatic signs of this in the developer space
