so here is what happened 

the director of a chamber music festival in South Africa reached out to me and asked if I could help a young bassoonist named Ofentse Segale. 

she’s 22, from a township in Joburg where her music has been her escape. 

she is playing on a borrowed, very old bassoon in such bad shape that she has to change fingerings just to make it work. and yet, she keeps going. because music is everything to her.

so here’s what I want to do:

raise $3000, buy her a proper instrument, fly to South Africa in July and give it to her personally from the stage after my performance.

I’ll film the whole journey — from the moment we find the right bassoon to the moment it’s in her hands — and make a short documentary to thank everyone who was part of it.
