In 2026 I hope we'll stop seeing foundations giving out grants that are locked up for grantees It's like having a job and your employer giving you a check that you can't cash for a year If people are getting grants and not building value it's a vetting problem not a vesting problem

Thoughts on auctions as a token launch mechanism Most token launches are speed contests -- b/c of this it's common to see bots, snipers & speculators seeking quick extraction, not aligned w/ community & project vision Auctions are a potential solution to this Here's what they can do: 1. Enable price discovery before trading so it's not as susceptible to PvP after 2. Lead to broader distribution at similar prices, making sniping difficult since there's no single moment to exploit 3. Create better team/holder alignment via vesting and more participation for people that have other things to do besides dropping everything to be early and first But in exchange there are also sacrifices: 1. They're not fast -- can take days to complete vs seconds/minutes/hours 2. Higher cognitive load, not as simple for everyone to understand + participate in 3. At end of day people are buying tokens to make money -- there's a speculative component that's lost (debatable if good or bad); most people aren't going to see bag moon during auction 4. If there's things like vesting, flexibility is removed -- people are locked in 5. Compared to typical high energy token launches, auctions can be slow, drawn out, some might say boring if not executed well 6. Speculators will still dump as soon as they can when there's an auction, it's just delayed In this the tension then becomes whether to optimize for fairness & stability vs w/ traditional launches w/ volatility & speed. Different tools for different jobs For communities wanting aligned incentives, auctions can be a good option For memes, viral content or something fast-moving, capturing attention immediately -- not so much It's not about which is better, more about the fit

After 2+ years helping support the launch and growth of Base, this month has been my last month at Coinbase. Earlier this month, I shared that I’d be leaving the core Base team to pursue new opportunities in the space. Taking Base from testnet launch to one of the leading L2s on L2Beat with $10B+ in TVL has been one of the most meaningful things I’ve contributed to. We built something real — and it’s still early. Some moments I’m proud to have been part of: * Helped launch Base testnet and mainnet * Scaled Base Discord and /base on Farcaster from a few thousand to 400k+ * Helped lead Onchain Summer and Base Around the World buildathons with 20k+ participants * Helped maintain the Superchain Token List for bridging tokens from Ethereum to Base * Supported work on base.org, docs.base.org, and Base’s node software * Was involved in scaling gas targets 10x to help keep fees low amidst record usage * Helped maintain status.base.org during maintenance and incidents * Participated in events like Devcon, ETHBerlin, and ETHGlobal representing Base * Helped support thousands of developers building onchain for the first time What’s next: A new chapter. I’ve spent over a decade in crypto, and I believe there’s never been a better time to build — AI tooling is unlocking an incredible, new wave of opportunity. I’m dedicating myself to building even more. I’m grateful to Jesse, the Base core team, and the many talented people at Coinbase. Working alongside them is something I’ll always be proud of. Stay tuned. :)
